Budgets, Commissions, Targets, Bonuses....

Being an Asian, I somehow got thrown into the deep end in managing the budgets and commissions for the salon and the barbers next door. Well, us Asians are generally good with numbers, but today was just a crazy day for me. Not only having 8 clients at the same time to look after and organize, I had some personal issues I was talking to my Pastor about whilst cutting his hair... On top of that, I had to put together some figures for the whole salon.

Apparently because I was the only one making most of the money in the salon, they were paying me out too much on commissions and bonuses. They normally don't mind if the salon have made the salon target, but it didn't. So basically the idea was to cut my commissions and bonuses down, and throw it out there for the rest of the staff so that it will motivate them to hit the salon target. And on the side, I get $50 extra every week. To me, $50 is nothing compare to the $300-$400 average a week I'm taking home in commission. But the whole idea was for the shop to do well and for everyone to be happy. ie: My boss.

And after a whole night of macking around and realizing that it's 10.30pm, we decided to call it a day and regroup tomorrow. I just couldn't help it but kept thinking about this on the drive home. And I bet I can't help but keep thinking about it all night. I have to get this solved by Saturday as my boss will be leaving for the US for 6 weeks. I never really like macking around with the whole business budgets thing. I'm always a man for himself kinda guy. I make my target, get my commisssion, and see ya later.

I suppose the question right now is where I want to go or be in the next couple of years. Should I help him out and lose out myself? Or should I let him be and gain on a personal note, but lose on the whole picture. But knowing me, I'll take the hit on the $$$ just so that I can prove I can do it. Doing what you ask? Leading the whole team of 10 hairdressers in making the salon target, which is a HUGE amount. Is $50 a week worth it? NO. It's not. I can tell you that right now. But will I do it? Your guess right now is as good as mine...
